Breakfast Spots in Wilson, North Carolina
Flo’s Biscuits
Address: 1015 Goldsboro St.
Flo’s is known for their biscuits, but it’s not just any normal biscuit. They make their biscuits fresh every morning and they’re what is most commonly referred to as a “cathead biscuit”. This means that the biscuit is roughly the size of a cat’s head. They’ve been making these biscuits ever since they opened in downtown Wilson in 1990. I prefer the good old hoop cheese biscuit, but Andrew enjoys a chicken and cheese. If you visit Flo’s be sure to bring cash as it is a cash only establishment.
Amy Jo’s Country Restaurant
Address: 4600 Nash St.
While Amy Jo’s is open all day I tend to associate it with breakfast. If you’re looking for a good old fashion country breakfast then you’ll love Amy Jo’s. Every morning you can find loads of people crowding the dining room of Amy Jo’s. The waitresses moving about refilling coffee mugs and saying hello to the regulars and new visitors alike. Amy Jo’s is quite the experience and one we know you’ll love.
Food Trucks in Wilson, North Carolina
Item9 Pizza Truck
Address: Varies. Check them out on Instagram or Facebook to see where they’re located.
Item9 Pizza Truck is the best pizza in Wilson, NC…hands down. Now I know some will argue about this and that’s okay, they’re allowed to have their wrong opinions. Jonathan at Item9 makes all of the pizza dough from scratch, uses quality ingredients and takes pride in every single pizza. He also is responsible for coming up with the creative and wildly delicious pizza concoctions such as White Chicks, Notorious M.A.C., and Nashville Hot Chicken Pizza. My personal favorite is the Red Foreman (Pepperoni Pizza) with a hot honey drizzle…get in my belly! It’s so good. Andrew absolutely loves the original Item9 pizza, but sadly this one rarely makes a comeback. I highly suggest ordering ahead (message on Instagram or Facebook) as they almost always sellout early.
Simply Cinnamon
Address: Checkout their Instagram to see where they will be located next.
Simply Cinnamon popped up on the food scene in Wilson North Carolina this past Summer (2022). Jennifer created these delicious, gourmet mini cinnamon rolls and then decided to deep fry them. After which she then creates different flavor combinations by adding toppings that range from a Smore’s Cinnamon Roll to a Fruity Pebbles Cinnamon Roll. All of which are delectable!
Yo Momma Stacks
Address: Check their Instagram or Facebook to find where they will be next.
Yo Momma Stacks is a food truck in Wilson NC that is serving up some amazing desserts! They have created a unique dessert that consists of waffles or pancakes covered in a variety of toppings. You can choose from toppings such as La Lecha, brownies, fruits, cereals, nutella and many other things! Yo Momma Stacks also has cheesecakes, milk shakes and ice cream sundaes. If you are looking for a new dessert place this is the spot!
Lunch/Casual Dinner Restaurants
Ruckus and Redemption
Address: 220 Barnes St.
Located in Wilson’s Social District, Ruckus and Redemption specializes in creating quality burgers and cocktails. Their menu is on the smaller side, but everything is done beautifully! Ruckus and Redemption is the perfect place to grab dinner or hangout at the bar with a specialty cocktail. While visiting Ruckus and Redemption be sure to pick up a new record from the adjoining Phil’s Music Exchange.
Bill’s Grill on Nash St.
Address: 119 Nash St.
Bill’s Grill may have Andrew’s favorite burger in town. This no fuss, down home little restaurant is serving up food that you would most commonly find at grandma’s house on a Sunday afternoon. Bill’s Grill is also apart of Wilson’s Social District so sit down and enjoy a cold one with your meal or take it to go as you walk around Wilson’s Historic Downtown Social District.
Parker’s Barbecue
Address: 2514 US-301
Alright ya’ll, this is a barbecue legend. The famous Parker’s Barbecue and no, the ones in Greenville are not the same. Parker’s Barbecue has been around since 1946 when it was first opened as a barbecue and oyster bar. The oyster bar quickly dwindled and was closed, but the barbecue has reigned supreme. Parker’s Barbecue serves up eastern North Carolina style whole hog barbecue along with all the fixin’s. They also serve fried chicken and seafood. Plus, they have that good ice if you know what I mean.
Marty’s BBQ
Address: 2643 Ward Blvd.
Marty’s BBQ has a rich history in Wilson NC, despite that it is a relatively new Wilson restaurant. The owner, Lawerence Ellis, is the late Bill Ellis’ son. Yes, Bill Ellis, the one who opened and ran the famous Bill’s BBQ in Wilson for decades until his passing in 2017. Marty’s BBQ serves eastern North Carolina style barbecue that the people of Wilson willingly sit in their cars for upwards of an hour for. (Trust me I’ve done it myself.)
Isahana Japanese Cuisine
Address: 126 Tarboro St.
Isahana, in my humble opinion is the best Japanese Cuisine in town. It’s currently located downtown, but will be opening a new location across town soon. Their hibachi keeps people coming back for more.
Fine Dining Restaurants in Wilson NC
Pup’s Steakhouse
Address: 2801 Ward Blvd. #3D
Pup’s Steakhouse has long been at the forefront of fine dining in Wilson, North Carolina. Andrew and I have enjoyed everything we’ve tried at Pup’s Steakhouse. Andrew loves their steaks and I highly recommend the chicken! On some nights they have live music, but you can still find a quiet corner if you are wanting your dinner to be more intimate and personal.
Daniel’s
Address: 2801 Ward Blvd #3J
Daniel’s is one of those places that is a casual dining restaurant at lunch and then opens as a fine dining restaurant in the evening. If you are visiting in the evening I highly suggest getting reservations prior as it can be quite busy. Their food is definitely worth the wait if you don’t have reservations! My favorite menu item is the Honey Mustard Chicken Sandwich…but I’m obsessed with anything that has honey mustard in the name.
The Beefmastor Inn
Address: 2656 US 301 N South
When I told Andrew I put The Beefmastor Inn under “Fine Dining” he questioned if it’s really considered fine dining. And while I would say it isn’t your typical “Fine Dining” I think it should be included. The Beefmastor Inn is an experience that everyone should have. Reservations are not taken here so be prepared to wait outside…some even “tailgate” while they wait. Once inside and you sit down at one of the ten tables you can enjoy picking your own ribeye. Yes, they will bring you a slab of meat, you will tell them how much you want and they will then cut your steak right there in front of you. It’s quite the fun experience.
Conclusion
The restaurants in Wilson NC are many and diverse. There’s something for everyone to love and enjoy. We highly recommend these wonderful local restaurants and eat from them quite often ourselves. Let us know which is your favorite!
